Theodore Roosevelt toured Hartford, Connecticut in a purple-lined Columbia Electric — the first U.S. president to ride publicly in an automobile. A Secret Service man pedaled behind on a bicycle. Twenty years later the horse era was over. Change comes fast when it comes.
