This week in 1776: the Declaration was read aloud to the public

July 8, 1776 — the Declaration of Independence got its first public reading, in the Pennsylvania State House yard in Philadelphia. Bells rang all day, including (legend says) the Liberty Bell. Read it out loud with your family this week — 250 years later, it still lands.
